Aidan O’Connell

Age: 38
From: Cork
Headband Colour: Orange
Profession: CalisthenicsPersonal Trainer
Course: Classic

Aidan completed his first Tough Mudder in 2014 and found it very tough mentally and physically. However, because of the massive sense of achievement upon finishing the event, he’s coming back with a bang:

This year I want to come back and have another go. I will be far better prepared for the length of the race as I will be building up my cardio endurance and be well able for the 8-10 mile run. I will be fully trained for the obstacles as my NinjaFit Calisthenics gym has monkey bars, monkey rings, ring toss and other tough grip strength challenges to overcome any obstacles Tough Mudder has to throw. My callisthenics training is perfect for building explosive strength for scaling and getting the body over high walls and climbing ropes.

I’m also looking forward to being an ambassador for Tough Mudder. I want to train others and build their strength and endurance for this event. I am creating a team and running a 6/8 week training plan for this year’s Tough Mudder. I also hope to inspire others into tackling this fun and challenging Tough Mudder course in 2019.

If you are in the Cork area, come join the NinjaFit Tough Mudder team and let’s crush it together.

Christine O’Gorman

Age: 28
From: Tipperary
Headband Colour: Orange
Profession: HR Administrator
Course: 5k

As a former international basketball player who worked as a fitness instructor and swims teacher, Christine developed a passion for keeping fit and healthy.

I am a former international basketball player now mid-distance runner who is looking for the next challenge in order to SMASH IT! I am a “normal” individual who is relatively active on Instagram and Snapchat.

I currently work in HR but I worked as a fitness instructor and swim teacher for 8 years. I would be an excellent motivator for anyone who thinks they couldn’t or shouldn’t take part in any fitness activity.

Not afraid of new things and being an Ambassador would be a huge challenge for me. One I would take with all limbs and apply the same passion in which I conduct my everyday life. I have never done a race like this before so I am looking forward to all of the obstacles while simultaneously being terrified of all the obstacles!

Colm ‘Shivers’ Gavin

Age: 39
From: Galway
Headband Colour: Yellow
Profession: Accountant
Course: Classic

A father of 3 very active children, involved in our local clubs such as hurling, football, Ladies football, and Camogie, Colm also plays some Junior C hurling.

I’m not a member of a gym but do try and get out for a run once or twice a week. I have a group of friends that gets together and tries to do a challenge once a month, whether it be an obstacle run, a 5k or 10k run, a mountain climb/walk, abseil. We’re up for anything!

Looking forward to taking on NEW obstacles and of course our favourite Block Ness Monster – or the “Toblerone” as we call it. Not a huge fan of the Arctic Enema.

It’s a great privilege to be chosen to be a TM Ambassador. It’s great to spread the word of this fantastic event that’s open to all ages and levels of fitness.

Paul McEntee

Age: 26
From:
Down
Headband Colour: Black and Yellow
Profession: Personal Trainer
Course: Classic

Paul jumped at the chance to become a Tough Mudder ambassador because not only is it an event that he was planning on taking part in, it is also a brand that he reckons has the same values as him in its core.

My favourite aspect of Tough Mudder is that whether you’re a seasoned endurance athlete or just starting your fitness journey, there is a Tough Mudder event just for you. This is perfect for me and the members of MAC Fitness as it caters for all of my clients and I can encourage everyone to get on board and take part as a team.

I feel that by taking on the role of an ambassador I am also taking on the challenge to push each and every individual who has opted to take part to be the best they can be; both physically and mentally!

I have to say I am not looking forward to the steep climbing wall and it will be a challenge to get everyone up and over it! But I intend to finish stronger than I started and to leave no Mudder behind.

This will definitely be another thing on the bucket list ticked off for 2019. Keep checking out my MAC Fitness page for training tips and tricks leading up to the event!

Paul Hughes

Age: 33
From: Armagh
Headband Colour: First Timer
Profession: Strength Coach
Course: Classic

Paul firmly believes that regular exercise is essential for both good physical and mental health, and likes the way Tough Mudder incorporates many of the important traits for being fit and healthy.

To train for TM, you should look to improve your strength, power and mobility. This is the foundation of what we do here at Templetown S&C and why I am proud to be a TM Ambassador.

TM also gives you something to work towards to keep you motivated on those days that you don’t feel like training, or for those tempting moments that you are considering reaching for that second slice of cake!

As TM is a team event, it promotes team bonding, while being fun, outdoors and physically challenging. Not to mention the immense satisfaction that you feel once you cross that finish line. That feeling encourages you to keep progressing with your health and fitness goals.

Personally, I am looking forward to completing TM with my friends and clients, using TM as a motivation in my next training program, taking on the Block Ness Monster obstacle and then drinking an ice cold beer once I cross that finish line.

So for now, enjoy your training, keep progressing and I hope to see you all at TM19!

Paul Minogue

Age: 35
From: Tipperary
Headband Colour:
Yellow
Profession: Medical Devices Engineer
Course: Classic

For Paul, being an ambassador is an opportunity to help bring more people into the fitter lifestyle.

A Tough Mudder course has a bit of everything — ten muddy and hilly miles, crawling, climbing, carrying, being submerged, and much more. Getting through such a course is a proper test of someone’s fitness and grit, and so it means a lot to me to be able to really get behind a test like this.

I’m most looking forward to some of the obstacles like Kong or Dead Ringer — I love getting my hands on a set of rings! This will be my third time volunteering too.

I’m least looking forward to Arctic Enema. I’ve been through it many times, and I can never seem to gracefully get in and out of it!

Peter McGrath

Age: 40
From: Westmeath
Headband Colour: Orange
Profession: Civil Servant
Course: Classic

Apart from being a huge fan of the colour scheme, Peter also likes the team element of Tough Mudder, how everybody helps everybody, strangers and teammates.

I helped people on some obstacles and got a helping hand myself too.

I applied to be a Brand Ambassador this year because I really enjoyed last year, having something to train for always helps and when you’re representing more than yourself you push a little bit more I think.

I’m looking forward to coming up with some new workouts, now that I sort of know what to expect. At the time of last year’s race, I’d never run that far before, but I’ve gotten into running and this year 8 miles doesn’t worry me at all (I’ll be running a marathon in October).

Hoping Kong will be back and any climbing obstacles should be fun, don’t mind the ice. Electricity – not fun!

Shauna Murphy

Age: 27
From: Cork
Headband Colour: Black & Orange
Profession: Buyer/Seller
Course: Classic

Shauna has done 20 Tough Mudders, including three Europe Toughest Mudders.

Tough Mudder means facing and overcoming challenges, setting new goals and meeting new people.

I hope to inspire more people to sign up for Tough Mudder, and to show people that it’s an amazing community to be part of!

I am most looking forward to monkey bars and other upper body obstacles.
What am I least looking forward to? Water obstacles or jumping from heights. And any combination of the two!
